Diplomate

A Diplomate of the PBPD is a pediatric dentist whose credentials in advanced Pediatric Dentistry education have been verified, who has successfully completed voluntary examinations, and who demonstrates specialized knowledge and skill and is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care through a voluntary commitment to life-long learning.

1. TIME-LIMITED DIPLOMATE

A time-limited Diplomate is an active Diplomate who has successfully completed the certification process and awarded a 10-year certificate. He must comply with the requirements of the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process (ADRP), have an active license to practice dentistry in the Philippines.

A time-limited Diplomate may be of:

  1. Active Status (annually verified)
  2. A Time-limited Diplomate who completes all the requirements of the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process (ADRP) and Renewal of Certification Process (ROCP) by its deadline (November 30 annually) and remains in good standing with the PBPD will be considered Active.  He must comply with the Renewal of Certification Process (ROCP), a four-part renewal of certification process that assures the public of his competency in pediatric dentistry at the end of the 10-year cycle.

  3. Inactive Status
  4. A Time-limited Diplomate who fails to complete any requirement of the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process (ADRP) three months after the deadline will remain certified but with a single occurrence of non-compliance for the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process will be placed on Inactive Status. Requirements and deadlines for the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process (ADRP) and Renewal of Certification Process (RCP) will remain in effect during the Inactive period.

Reactivation of Certification

A Time-limited Diplomate can reactivate certification only one time (see Forfeiture of Certification).

A Time-limited Diplomate whose certification is on Inactive Status, but has not been forfeited, can resume Active status by:

  • submitting a P5,000 reactivation fee in addition to previous unpaid annual diplomate renewal process fee
  • completing the Annual Credentials Survey (Part 1), Continuing Education (Parts 2) and CQI module (Part 3)
  • completing the Renewal of Certification Examination (ROCE-Part 4) if they were due during the period of inactivation

Forfeiture of Certification

A Time-limited Diplomate will forfeit certification if either of the following occurs:

  1. Is Inactive and fails to reactivate his/her certificate status by deadline of one Inactive year.
  2. OR

  3. Has previously reactivated and subsequently fails to complete any requirement of the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process.

Recertification

A Time-limited Diplomate who has forfeited PBPD certification and wishes to become certified again must submit a completed Board Candidacy application, required credentials (Part 1, 2, 3), pay associated fees for the Case and Oral Review Examination and take the CORE.

Successful completion of the Case and Oral Review Examination will qualify the candidate as a Time-limited Diplomate valid for another 10 years.

2. LIFE DIPLOMATE

A Life Diplomate is an active status Diplomate who has been in good standing for at least 10 years and has reached the age of sixty-five (65) years old. They are exempt from the Annual Diplomate Renewal fee but must maintain an active license to practice dentistry in the Philippines, submit the requirements of Part 1, 2, 3 of the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process and complete required elements of Renewal of Certification Process.

  1. Active Status (annually verified)
  2. A Life Diplomate who completes all the requirements of the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process and Renewal of Certification Process by its deadline and remains in good standing with the PBPD will be considered Active.

  3. Inactive Status
  4. A Life Diplomate who fails to complete any requirement of the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process will remain certified but with a single occurrence of non-compliance for the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process but will be placed on Inactive Status. Requirements and deadlines for the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process and Renewal of Certification Process will remain in effect during the Inactive period.

3. RETIRED DIPLOMATE

An active Diplomate who has voluntarily and completely retired from the practice of dentistry (administration and/or teaching), has been a Diplomate for at least 10 years, has been in good standing, and has no pending actions or investigations against any dental licenses.

If a Retired status Diplomate returns to practicing, teaching, or administration in dentistry, he/she must inform the PBPD in writing within thirty (30) days at which time his/her will need to complete Credentials prior to their status being changed to Life Diplomate. They will be required to comply with Annual Diplomate Renewal Process until they let the PBPD know that they have returned to Retired status.

An active retired diplomate are only required to submit Annual Credentials survey Part 1 (stating that she/he has no active license to practice dentistry in the Philippines) of the Annual Diplomate Renewal Process, and is exempt from the Annual Diplomate Renewal fee and Renewal of Certification Process.

  1. Active Status (annually verified)
  2. A Retired Diplomate who completes all the requirements of the Annual Diplomate Renewal by its deadline and remains in good standing with the PBPD will be considered Active.

  3. Inactive Status
  4. A Retired Diplomate who fails to complete requirements of the Annual Diplomate Renewal by its deadline.
