2016 PBPD General Assembly

The PBPD held its Annual General Assembly last July 4, 2016 at the Last Chukker of the Manila Polo Club. The President of the PPDSI, Dr. Noel Vallesteros, together with the other Diplomates, were present to listen to PBPD Chair, Dr. Lourdes Caparas who provided the 2016 PBPD annual report; and Dr. Marirose Eala for the Treasurer’s report. The group had a chance to exchange ideas on achieving the long-term goals of the Board while enjoying a sumptuous breakfast.

2015 PBPD Induction and Annual General Assembly

The PBPD Induction and Annual General Assembly was held last July 6, 2015 at the Trophy Room, Manila Polo Club. Dr. Hazel Marie Tala-Sunico was inducted as the newest Diplomate of the PBPD, making her the 10th pediatric dentist to be included in the Diplomate Roster. Dr. Rannier Reyes, PRC Board Chairman was present as the inducting officer and guest speaker. The event was attended by all the PBPD Diplomates and PPDSI President, Dr. Noel Vallesteros. At the same event, the initial accreditation of the Pediatric Dentistry Center (PDC) was also awarded.

PRC Certified Pediatric Dental Specialists

Ten Specialists in Pediatric Dentistry were certified by the Board of Dentistry, Professional Regulation Commission, upon the nomination of the Philippine Pediatric Dental Society, Inc. last July 30, 2013 at the Manila Hotel. The PRC Certificates of Approval as Pediatric Dental Specialists were distributed by the members of the Professional Regulatory Board of Dentistry including Hon. Gloria Bumanlag, Hon. Melinda Garcia, Hon. Rannier Reyes, and Hon. Dominador Santos and its Chairman, Hon. Steve Mark Gan. Hon.

Change has come to the PBPD. In the first 16 years years from 1996 to 2012 non-university graduates were encouraged to take part in the diplomate certification process.

The End of Grandfathering of Pediatric Dentistry Specialists

In an effort of the PBPD to have general dentists with less than 2 years formal training in Pediatric Dentistry become recognized as a specialist in Pediatric Dentistry, the Special Recognition Exam (SRE) was opened to qualifying candidates in January 31, 2013. At the end of the process, we would like to congratulate Dr. Mitsyrose Antolin for hurdling the three phases of the SRE, the last one being the Oral Examination, which was held last July 18, 2016.

2016 Provisional Accreditation of Pediatric Dentistry Center

After the Initial Accreditation of the Pediatric Dentistry Center (PDC) was awarded last March 2016, one year provisional accreditation valid until March 31, 2017 was awarded to the Pediatric Dentistry Center (PDC) after it was evaluated by the PBPD Progam Accreditation Committee (PAC) last February 2016. As of now, the PDC is the only training program seeking accreditation for its 2-year Pediatric Dentistry training program.
